We recently completed a commercial CCTV installation at Bardsey Primary Academy on Woodacre Lane in Bardsey, North Leeds. The property already had an older CCTV system in place, but the customer had seen the improved picture quality and performance available from newer Hikvision CCTV cameras installed at other venues. They decided it was the right time to upgrade the security system and improve surveillance across the property.

With children using the nursery and school facilities, reliable CCTV coverage is particularly important. The new system provides clear surveillance both inside and outside the building, helping staff monitor key areas and supporting the academy’s wider safeguarding and site security measures.

Before starting the installation, we carried out a full CCTV site survey at the property. Our engineers looked at the existing system, the layout of the building and the areas where improved coverage was required.

Camera positions were carefully planned to provide useful views rather than simply installing cameras wherever cabling was easiest. Once the survey was complete, we provided the customer with a full written quotation covering the proposed CCTV equipment and installation work.

We arranged the CCTV installation for a bank holiday weekend when no children were present at the academy. This allowed our CCTV engineers to work safely throughout the building without creating temporary trip hazards or disrupting the normal operation of the nursery and school.

The cabling was carefully routed and hidden throughout the property wherever possible. This resulted in a clean and tidy installation with very little visible wiring, which is particularly important when installing a modern security system within an established building.

For this commercial CCTV system, we installed high-quality Hikvision 4 megapixel turret cameras. These provide excellent image quality while their compact design makes them suitable for both internal and external CCTV coverage.

Each camera has a 2.8mm lens which provides a wide viewing angle of approximately 90 degrees. This makes the cameras particularly effective inside the property as one correctly positioned camera can provide coverage across a large part of a classroom, corridor or other internal area.

The external Hikvision CCTV cameras also provide excellent night-time picture quality. This is important during the darker winter months when parents may be arriving or collecting children when natural light levels are much lower.

Good low-light CCTV coverage makes it easier to identify people and activity around entrances, pathways and external areas of the property. The result is useful surveillance throughout the day rather than a system that only provides a strong image during daylight hours.

At the centre of the new CCTV system is a 16-channel Hikvision NVR. Choosing a recorder with additional capacity means the academy is not restricted to its current camera setup.

If more areas need CCTV coverage in the future, additional compatible cameras can be added without automatically needing to replace the recorder. This gives the customer a practical security system that can grow with their requirements.

We also installed multiple CCTV monitors in different rooms around the nursery. This gives staff a large, clear display of the live CCTV footage and allows them to quickly see who is at the door and which parents have arrived.

Having CCTV footage available in several rooms makes the system much more practical for staff during the working day. They can keep an eye on entrances and other camera views without relying on a single monitor in one part of the building.

Once the work was complete, the customer was very happy with both the CCTV picture quality and the standard of the installation. The combination of carefully planned camera positions, multiple monitors, hidden cabling and modern Hikvision equipment has given the property a significant improvement over the older system.
